A very nice café with outdoor seating and, of course, indoor seating. Homemade cakes and gateaux are a given... 😉 Great café and more. Very friendly owners...

The cathedral is Meldorf's landmark; the imposing brick building can be seen from afar. It's centrally located on the market square. The cobblestones make it less than ideal for road bikers, although Meldorf itself is worth seeing.

The Nordermühle can already be seen in a depiction by the cartographer Daniel Friese from 1550/60. Once owned by the Meldorf Dominican monastery, after 1559 it apparently belonged to the governor Heinrich Rantzau; later it was administered as royal property by the Rent Chamber in Copenhagen. In 1791 the old post mill was demolished and replaced by a new one. In 1832 the mill was the last tenant. The government sold it in 1834. A gallery mill followed in 1840. However, this burned down in 1862 due to a lightning strike. A cellar mill was then built as a new building. In 1879, miller Hinrichs bought the mill. Hermann Hinrichs took over in 1930 as the third generation. After 1950 the “Fortuna” was converted to run on motors only. In 1973, a mill enthusiast bought the property from the miller's widow. The mill has been a listed building since then. It still has all of its original, fully functional mill equipment. In order to preserve this impressive technology, it was not converted into a residential mill, but is only habitable in the summer months without any comfort. https://www.echt-dithmarschen.de/typisch/poi/nordermuhle-meldorf

https://www.landesmuseum-dithmarschen.de/ The exhibition focuses on the regional history of Dithmarschen shortly before the founding of the so-called Peasants' Republic up to the modern era in the 1960s. The new tour through the Dithmarscher State Museum takes you through 1200 years of Dithmarschen, from the wealth of the Peasants' Republic to everyday rural life in the 1960s. Living and business spaces furnished true to the original take guests into the everyday life of the Dithmarschers from 1870 to the 1960s. Phenomena such as social change, economic upturn and a growing range of leisure activities in rural areas become tangible in the listed building of the former Meldorf School of Academics.
