The 15-meter-high water tower was built in 1907 on the Breniger Schornsberg and was in operation until 1957. Protected as a monument since 1986, the brick tower remained unused for a long time until Alexander Lichtenberg from Cologne acquired it from the Euskirchener Gaswerke in 1989. In the following years, the tower was used, among other things, as a conference center and a restaurant. Since March 22, 2014, a new tenant has been operating an e-bike station with a bicycle shop and gastronomy in the tower. It looks like a very interesting place, it would be worth stopping if it had a beer garden.

The water tower on the outskirts of Brenig - which belongs to the town of Bornheim - is one of the seven stations that can be hiked along the "Bornheimer Quellenweg". The Heimat- und Eifelverein Bornheim e.V. created and signposted this path two years ago. The vast majority of this path would also be suitable for cycling, but not entirely.
