The climate here is harsh, damp and cold. Annual precipitation 900 to 1000 mm. Large temperature differences, shortened vegetation period, risk of frost even in summer. There are black stork, capercaillie, black grouse and hazel grouse, lapwing, hawk, sparrow hawk, black, grey, green and spotted woodpecker, hoopoe, eagle owl, long-eared owl, owls and much more. Important visitor information: to protect nature, the Meloner Au is only open to hikers from June 20th to November 30th (due to the breeding and breeding season of chickens). There are also guided moor hikes.
