In 1711, Albert Anton von Schmerling acquired the estate. The new owner was the Land Comptur of the Teutonic Order. The parish was thus passed to the Teutonic Order, which became the patron of the church. This church was located about 15 minutes outside of town on the so-called Kirchberg. In order to improve this impractical location, the castle chapel and several adjoining rooms were converted into a parish church and parts of the castle were adapted as a pastor's apartment. The parish church has therefore been in its current location since 1789.

Only the construction of the Chapel of the Cross on the Hofwiesen created a worthy location for it. The community committed itself to contributing sand, lime and stones and the population eagerly helped with the construction. Over the years the chapel fell into disrepair. A generous donation of 500 guilders from the wealthy Weis sisters, who had spent their youth in Laab, made it possible for the chapel to be rebuilt in 1852.

Beautiful, promising and wide gravel path, which is also accessible with a stroller. The Wolfsgrabenbach flows past a little further to the east.
