The common land biotope was designated in 1983 as part of the development plan for the Gunzgen/Boningen gravel mining area. It was protected as the Gunzgen Common Land Nature Reserve in 2012. The municipality of Gunzgen owns the area and, together with the canton, oversees its maintenance. The lake was created by gravel mining. It is fed by groundwater and springs. The excess water is diverted into a ditch in the south and seeps into the adjacent forest.

The Naturfreundehaus is open on Wednesdays from 12:00 to 16:00 and on Sundays. Wonderful views of the Alps. By bike, you should take the path from Rumpelhöhe towards Homberglücke. This way, everything is rideable except for a 3-meter staircase. Those who want to cycle directly up the military road from Rumpelhöhe will have to push the last 150 meters, as it's too steep.

A trip to Rumpelhöhe is always worth it. You can really enjoy the unique view over the Mittelland and Olten. The Nature Friends House is occupied on Wednesday afternoons and Sundays. Then you can drink something and eat something small. Accessible by bike for experienced bikers. For everyone else, follow the street and climb the stairs for the last 30 m.

The Church of St. Martin - for over a century it has been one of the most beautiful and distinctive buildings in the three-fir town of Olten. In 2010, our three-nave columned basilica with the characteristic three-apse choir and the monumental double-tower facade celebrated its centenary.
