May 25, 2026, Liestal City Gate (Törli)

The "Obere Tor" (also called Törli) is the landmark of Liestal and the rest of the medieval city fortification. The substructure was built in the first half of the 13th century, the subsequently added barbican had to make way in 1879 for traffic reasons. The tower has probably been painted since 1498/99, the current paintings are by local painter Otto Plattner from the years 1949/50 and show on the inside the Rütli oath and St. George the dragon slayer, on the outside Chronos and a warrior with a Swiss banner.

Riverside path along the Ergolz. There is a horse training arena here, but no miniature golf course. The miniature golf course is in the municipality of Augst, about 10 km downstream.

November 20, 2025, Georg Herwegh Monument

Herwegh died in Lichtenthal near Baden-Baden, but his wife had him buried in Liestal because he had wished to be buried not in Germany, but in his "home canton, in free republican soil." Emma Herwegh was also buried in the same grave in 1904. The inscription on his grave reads: Persecuted by the powerful, Hated by the servants, Misunderstood by most, Loved by his own.
