In front of the savings bank in Büchen stands a life-size bronze sculpture by Karlheinz Goedtke depicting a boy holding a sparrow. He gazes at the bird with a friendly smile. The sculpture impresses with its remarkable clarity of expression, its subtly minimalist design, and the harmonious and heartwarming scene of respectful coexistence between human and animal. This is the only ferry across the Elbe-Lübeck Canal. It connects the communities of Siebeneichen and Fitzen. Even if you don't actually have to cross to the other side, the crossing is worth it for the experience alone. Especially since the ferry is free, but a donation is requested.
