Unfortunately, there's not much left of the view. Everything is slowly becoming overgrown, and no one is taking responsibility or maintaining this spot.

The north bank invites you to linger. The area is spacious, beautifully designed and mining technology, such as information boards about the former open-cast mine, shows that it is not that long ago.

The Olbersdorfer Lake is located on the edge of the Zittau Mountains in eastern Saxony and is a popular local recreation area. The lake was created from a former brown coal open-cast mine, which was flooded after it was closed. Today it is a successful example of the renaturation of mining areas. Size: The Olbersdorfer Lake has a water surface of around 60 hectares. Depth: The maximum depth is around 36 meters. It is located in the immediate vicinity of Zittau and offers a wonderful view of the mountains of the Zittau Mountains.

The original church was probably built in the 16th or 17th century. It was a central point of village life. It was a simple village church, typical of the Upper Lusatia region, with simple architecture but one special feature; the church tower was located to the east, which is a great rarity. The old church was demolished in the 1980s when Olbersdorf was greatly changed as a result of brown coal mining and the associated reclamation measures. Olbersdorf was heavily affected by brown coal mining, which changed the landscape and the village itself. Many buildings, including the church and cemetery, had to be demolished. After mining ended, the area was recultivated, which led to the creation of the Olbersdorf Lake, which is now a popular local recreation area.
