The nature trail in the Königsforst forest is a great way to get to know this large forest east of Cologne a little better. The path leads through a quiet section of the forest. Here you'll gain insights into the local flora and fauna. You'll learn about different tree species, animal tracks, and the characteristics of the forest floor.

From the Lüderich hill, which rises to around 260 meters, the view stretches far across the Bergisches Land region. To the west, the landscape opens up towards the Cologne Lowland, where the hills gradually give way to flatter terrain. On clear days, you can even see the Cologne Cathedral. Traces of the mining that once took place around the Lüderich are still visible.

Perfect for running. The paths are wide and straight, without ruts or rocks. Ideal for running in regular running shoes. The signs and benches are in excellent condition. Most of the benches even have shelter. Unfortunately, I didn't notice any trash cans. It's absolutely beautiful here, and the paths offer plenty of options for different routes.

At the beginning of August, summer heather blooms in Pioneer Basin II. Pioneers never practiced here. The name probably originates from the fact that the so-called pioneer plants settled there after the unauthorized exploitation of the gravel deposits. The numbering refers to the order in which the three gravel pits were formed.

The hut is ideal for a short break – especially on longer circular tours through the eastern part of the Königsforst.

The summit is located in a quiet, wooded area and is rather unspectacularly marked – but there is a bench for a short break, and the surroundings invite you to linger.

The views are not spectacularly open, but they do offer small, charming panoramas between the trees – especially in autumn or when the sun is low in the sky.
