Chapel of Our Lady of Einsiedeln, Ediger-Eller In the 17th century, a piece of Switzerland moved to Ediger-Eller. This beautiful chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Einsiedeln in the Ediger district is the northernmost replica of the Maria Einsiedeln in Switzerland and is in no way inferior to it. It is also called the Meinrad Chapel after its builder. The chapel, which also includes a gallery, was completed in 1666. A bell from 1667, which called pilgrims to prayer, is still located in the ridge turret. During your visit, admire the imposing architecture and search for the name of the first visitor in 1667. According to the custom of the time, he had to carve his name into the wooden balustrade. St. Martin's Church, Ediger-Eller The branch chapel of the Eller parish church, dedicated to St. Hilarius's pupil "Martin of Tours," became the parish church of "St. Martin" of Ediger in 1142. Romanesque remains and Gothic completion (around 1506) present themselves in the beauty visible today. A picturesque gallery connects the choir side with the church gate of the city wall, built in 1363. To the west rises the over 50 m high bell tower, an outstanding example of late Gothic design. The octagonal spire is the most richly decorated Gothic slate church spire in Christendom. Beautiful half-timbered houses, some of which are several hundred years old, and narrow streets. Really romantic and beautifully lit. Worth a visit at any time of year!
