Next to the Oberkirche, the Unterkirche Sankt Nicolai shaped the city's history in the 12th century. The Romanesque granite ashlar building was erected from approx. 1155 to 1186 as the parish church of the Unterstadt. The church is a cruciform pillar basilica with a two-towered west facade. Sankt Nicolai is considered the largest Romanesque granite basilica east of the Elbe and is thus a special sign of fieldstone architecture. The furnishings are kept simple and modest. The pulpit and the magnificent epitaph were created at the beginning of the 17th century. The oldest gravestone in the "Unterkirche" dates from the year 1321. https://www.touristinfo-burg.de/sehenswertes/kirchen/kirche-sankt-nicolai.html

The Roland Burger is the historical landmark of the town of Burg near Magdeburg in Jerichower Land (Saxony-Anhalt). The statue is considered a symbol of civic freedom, independence, and the granting of market rights. The imposing Roland figure is located in the middle of the city center on Rolandplatz in front of the Volksbank Jerichower Land. Size: 5.60 meters high - Weight: 12 tons Depicted as a mighty knight with a gleaming, raised sword. Burg is one of 13 historical Roland towns in Saxony-Anhalt and looks back on a varied history of monuments: 1518: First documented mention of a wooden Roland figure. 1581: Replaced by a stone sandstone figure at the former guild house. 1823: In an act of vandalism, the statue was completely smashed. Only the head and shoulders were preserved as a torso. This original part is now protected in the town's historical town hall. Following fundraising campaigns and civic engagement, the current, true-to-original stone replica was solemnly inaugurated in 1999 on Rolandplatz. https://www.touristinfo-burg.de/sehenswertes/historisches-neu/roland-de-ries.html
