The Klosterscheune (also part of the monastic farmstead) dates partly from the 14th century. Its masonry on the long sides with strong buttresses is medieval. As early as 1533, an inventory mentions a „Hovetma[n]s Stalle“ (Hofmann's stable), which is probably identical to this barn. It belonged to the monastery's economic operations (agriculture, storage, stables) and is the last surviving building of its kind.

Its name probably comes from the time when its water was still used to brew beer in the Eldena monastery complex

The remains of the once important monastery are embedded in a park with old trees, including 180-year-old oaks. The main accent of the ruins is the imposing west façade of the former monastery church with the high pointed arch window opening. Caspar David Friedrich painted many pictures of the ruins and thereby sparked a new appreciation, which enabled the complex to be preserved and secured in 1830.
