Cherries play an important role in Zug. To mark the opening of the cherry season, the «Chrie-sigloggä» bells are rung, as cherry trees used to be public property and the trees were released for harvest. Following an old tradition, teams still race with 8.1-meter-long cherry ladders through Zug's old town at the well-known «Chriesisturm». A cheerful lunch and the traditional «Chriesimärt» complement the whimsical start.

The Zytturm, beautifully adorned with its blue-and-white striped roof, stands here. On the one hand, you can read the time (=Zyt) from it. On the other hand, it also shows the month, moon phase, day of the week, and leap year! It is possible to climb this landmark free of charge and enjoy a wonderful view. To do so, simply ask for the key in the Wunderbox shop (to the left in the archway of the Zytturm).

Several shipwrecks have already occurred in this bay. In 1435, the lowest of the three old town alleys collapsed into the lake, threatening the existence of the medieval town of Zug. In the 16th century, there was also a landslide that submerged nine houses. On July 5, 1887, the ground at the site of the quay works lost its stability. In the afternoon, some buildings in the outer suburb collapsed into the lake on the shore, and several people died. A second shore collapse occurred the same evening. A total of 11 people died that day, around 600 were made homeless, and 35 buildings were destroyed.

The Zug train station is a so-called wedge-shaped station and is located on the lines Zurich-Lucerne and Zurich-Arth Goldau. From 2001 to 2004, the station building was redesigned. Fluorescent tubes were attached to the southern glass front. At night, the colors red, green, and blue and their mixed colors can be generated.

The Zytturm was the main tower of the old Kyburger city of Zug and far surpassed the other towers of the urban fortifications. It therefore served as a favorable observation point for protection against impending fire hazards. Thus, on stormy Föhn nights, guards always watched from the tower with the fire horn ready, to awaken the citizens at the first sign of fire. However, the guards were always bothered by thick, long-tailed rats, which often loitered in the tower and ate the guards' tasty mid-morning snack. A student from another city suggested painting a large rat on the tower. This was to be placed exactly where the rats used to climb into the guard's room. And indeed, the giant rats painted black next to the stone ledge henceforth scared away the voracious rats.
