The "Dimbacher Buntsand Höhenweg" in the Hauenstein holiday region has a tourist extension. In cooperation with TU Kaiserslautern, funded by the Rhineland-Palatinate Nature and Environment Foundation with funds from Glücksspirale, it has been enhanced with geological and nature conservation information boards to create an educational and learning trail. The 9.8 km long hiking trail presents the rock landscape in a particularly beautiful way, as hikers are led close to the sandstone formations via steep slope and rock-lined passages. Short dead-end paths lead to picturesque viewpoints of the surrounding forest areas, sometimes even into the Rhine plain. This hiking trail, already beautiful in its nature, now has corresponding information at 12 stations, such as geological foundations at Falkenstein, forms and stratifications at Dimberg, and tectonics at the Isselmannsteine.

A natural paradise in the heart of Germany, very interesting from a geological perspective, and with a bit of luck you might even spot lynxes and wildcats.

The Wegelnburg Castle is located at an altitude of 572 meters, stretching along a mountain ridge. It is the highest castle complex in the Palatinate region, offering panoramic views over the Palatinate Forest/Northern Vosges Biosphere Reserve. This imperial fortress was built in the 12th/13th centuries. Remains of gates, buildings, large rock chambers, and surrounding walls are worth seeing.
