Definitely worth a detour! 🏛️ The Pompejanum is not only architecturally beautiful, but also offers a great view of the Main River due to its elevated location. Especially combined with the castle garden, it's a beautiful highlight on a tour through Aschaffenburg.

After large parts collapsed (especially the north wall of the Cathedral in February 1946 as a result of the bombing of Würzburg on March 16, 1945, during which the Cathedral had already been severely damaged by fire), it was rebuilt by the diocesan and cathedral master builder Hans Schädel until 1967.

With its double-tower facade and a total length of 105 meters, it is the fourth largest Romanesque church building in Germany and a masterpiece of German architecture from the time of the Salian emperors. Originally, the cathedral had the patronage of Salvator; from 855 to around 1000 it was dedicated to the Savior, from around 1000 to 1967 the Apostle Andrew was the cathedral patron, and since May 6, 1967, the cathedral bears the patronage of the Franconian martyrs Kilian, Kolonat, and Totnan. More about this impressive building, which should definitely be viewed from the inside: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C3%BCrzburger_Dom

Nice elevated view over the Pompejanum grounds - a good place to snap a photo of the building from a different angle.

In Würzburg's Old Town, there are as many sights in a small space as in hardly any other city. A special gem is definitely the Würzburg Cathedral - be sure to visit; it's worth it 👍
