Nice 'up and down' on a dead end road. Beautiful landscape but quite tough because of the many walls where the road descends briefly and then steeply up again. Again different from the climbs in the area. Do take enough water with you because there is nothing to get along the way. The way back is easy because you roll up most of the slopes at a good speed.

You should definitely go to the rock here. There are several holes in the rock that you can look through. Here is a link to the waypoint on Wikilocs: https://de.wikiloc.com/routen-wandern/barranco-de-negra-124857035#wp-124857071

The fertile Barranco Guiniguada is one of the longest valleys on the island. It stretches 22 km from the mountains in the center to the old town of Las Palmas. The hiking trail leads through gorges with subtropical plants, past small farms and villages whose houses climb up the slopes.

Komoot offers a selection of 12 dedicated no-traffic gravel bike routes in Gran Canaria. These routes are carefully curated to provide a serene and car-free cycling experience, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the island's diverse landscapes.
Gran Canaria's gravel trails offer a remarkable variety of terrain. You'll encounter everything from well-maintained gravel roads and unpaved sections, particularly in the mountainous interior, to paths winding through deep ravines and pine forests. The island's 'miniature continent' nature means you can experience dramatic shifts from volcanic landscapes to lush valleys, all while enjoying minimal vehicle traffic.
Yes, many of the no-traffic gravel routes in Gran Canaria are quite challenging, with 10 out of 12 routes listed as 'difficult'. For instance, the View of the Canyon – Road Through the Gorge loop from Bar El Paso covers nearly 60 km with over 1,600 meters of elevation gain. These routes often feature significant climbs and descents, providing a demanding yet rewarding experience for advanced gravel bikers.
Gran Canaria's no-traffic gravel routes are rich with natural beauty. You can expect breathtaking panoramic views from high-altitude points like those near Pico de las Nieves summit, dramatic volcanic formations such as Roque Nublo, and the impressive Bandama Caldera. Routes often traverse deep ravines like Fataga and Barranco de Guayadeque, offering unique geological sights and lush vegetation. Some trails also pass through dense pine forests, providing a stark contrast to the more arid landscapes.
While many of Gran Canaria's gravel routes are rated as difficult, the island does offer varied terrain. For family-friendly options, it's best to look for routes with lower elevation gain and smoother surfaces. While this guide focuses on more challenging no-traffic routes, you might find easier sections or paths closer to coastal towns that are more suitable for families, though these may not be entirely car-free. Always check the route details for difficulty and elevation before heading out with children.
Gran Canaria boasts a warm, spring-like climate year-round, making it an ideal destination for gravel biking even during winter months when other European cycling locations are too cold. This consistent pleasant weather ensures you can enjoy the no-traffic trails almost any time of the year, with comfortable temperatures for outdoor activity.
Yes, several no-traffic gravel bike routes in Gran Canaria are designed as loops, allowing you to start and end at the same point. An example is the Road Through the Gorge – Unpaved Section of GC-604 loop from Presa de Chira, which offers a challenging circular ride through scenic landscapes. These circular routes are convenient for planning your day without needing shuttle services.
The no-traffic gravel routes in Gran Canaria are highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.4 stars. Reviewers often praise the incredible diversity of landscapes, from 'lunar landscapes' to dense forests, and the opportunity to experience the island's dramatic scenery away from vehicle noise. The challenging climbs and rewarding views are frequently highlighted as major draws.
While the focus is on natural beauty, some routes may pass near areas with historical significance. For example, the island's interior features ancient cave dwellings like Cave of Four Doors and Caballero Caves, which offer glimpses into the island's past. The charming white villages nestled in ravines, such as those in the Fataga Ravine, also provide cultural interest and opportunities for a break.
While Gran Canaria has a public transport network, taking bikes on buses (guaguas) can be challenging, especially on intercity routes or during peak times, due to limited space. It's advisable to check with the specific bus company for their bike policies and availability. Many routes are easily accessible from well-known basecamps like Maspalomas, making car transport or bike rentals a more common option for reaching trailheads.
While most routes in this guide are rated difficult, the island's diverse terrain means there are easier sections to be found. For beginners seeking no-traffic options, it's recommended to look for routes described as having moderate gradients and smoother surfaces, possibly closer to the coast or in flatter valley areas. Always check the route's elevation profile and surface description on komoot to ensure it matches your skill level.
