December 7, 2023, Heinold's First & Last Chance Saloon 🍺 1883

Heinhold's First and Last Chance Saloon and Pioneer Cabin have been open since July of 1884. The saloon's interior decorations reflect events from Vietnam, World War Two, Prohibition, and World War One. Inside seating is cozy, and outdoor seating on the patio is great on a sunny day. Swing by and grab a craft beer on your ride!

Historic wooden cabin relocated to he Oakland waterfront. A few yards across the square is the tiny active bar/saloon. heinoldsfirstandlastchance.com Heinold's First and Last Chance Saloon opened in July of 1884. The Saloon's interior, itself a montage of America's past, reflects events from Vietnam, World War Two, Prohibition, and World War One. The cozy inside-seating and bar is complimented by a lovely outdoor patio. The 2020 Coronavirus shutdown was the first mandatory closure since April 18, 1906, when Oakland's board of Police and Fire Commissioners ordered every saloon in town to close and the restaurants to stop selling alcohol after the Earthquake that slanted Heinold's floor.

In 1936, the USCG Cutter Electra was renamed as the USS Potomac, which then served as the presidential yacht (for US president Franklin Roosevelt) until 1945. The vessel has been painstakingly restored, and you can even board it for a cruise around the bay.

The small sandy beach has a pier reaching out into the bay, also offering closer access to sculptures of several 'Peanuts' characters, mostly of Snoopy in his Red Baron fighter planes and outfit.

Great overlooks across the bay from the trail that runs around both sides of the jetty that forms and protects the marina.
