Alice Baddeley
July 27, 2026, Redwood Park Fairy Forest

Look out for the little fairy houses tucked among the trees here at Redwood Park. It adds a fun treasure-hunt feel to an already lovely forest walk. The park is also known for its unusual collection of tree species, planted by brothers Peter and David Brown.

Redwood Park's famous Treehouse is a replica of the woodland home once built by brothers Peter and David Brown, who lived in the forest here for more than 60 years. Climb the stairs for a unique viewpoint among the towering redwood trees.

Deer Trail is one of Campbell Valley's lesser-known trails, and it leads to an unexpected relic: the old Langley Speedway racetrack, where the asphalt oval still peeks through trees and tall grass. Closed in 1979, it has been steadily reclaimed by nature, with deer, hawks, eagles and owls all part of the scene. In spring, keep an eye out for lupins and old fruit trees in bloom.

Little River Loop is Campbell Valley’s easiest trail: a flat, stroller- and wheelchair-friendly circuit of around 2.3 kilometres. Fine gravel and raised boardwalks cross the Little Campbell River twice, creating peaceful spots to pause and look for wildlife, like squirrels and chipmunks, along the way.

Shaggy Mane Trail is an 11-kilometre loop that pairs wide-open park scenery with steep climbs in and out of the valley. It is shared with horseback riders, so hikers should give way when meeting horses, and expect a few muddy stretches in wetter seasons.

As you follow the Arbour Ribbon Trail, the path passes near Langley Regional Airport, where you can see the runways. It’s an interesting spot to pause for a moment and watch small planes taxi, and take off. The airport is used mostly by training schools and private pilots, so there’s often light aircraft activity throughout the day, adding an unexpected bit of action to an otherwise peaceful walk.

The Arbour Ribbon Trail is a flat, easy path that follows the green corridor along the Nicomekl River in Langley. This section winds through a mix of natural areas and landscaped spaces, with plenty of trees, pollinator-friendly plants, and open views along the creek. It’s a relaxed walk or run with very little elevation gain, making it accessible for most visitors. The trail is part of a larger route connecting neighbourhoods like Murrayville and Willoughby, creating a quiet greenway through the community.

Located along the green corridor of the Nicomekl River, Derek Doubleday Arboretum is a peaceful garden space filled with walking paths, tree collections, and pollinator-friendly plants. What was once an open field has been transformed into a community arboretum designed to support birds and wildlife. As you explore the gardens, you’ll come across memorial trees and plaques, including “A Walk to Remember,” where trees were planted to honour Canadian soldiers who lost their lives during the Afghanistan mission.
