From this point on, it was difficult for me to continue on my MTB; I continued on foot to the stream. Since there was a lot of water and it was impossible to continue, we turned back.

Please note: The end of the Sentiero dei Mulini is closed off with a gate, so you cannot continue walking to Bomarzo or Mugnano in Teverina (which was our original intention), but you must return to the starting point via the same path.

Be amazed by the statues and sculptures in the Parco dei Mostri (Park of the Monsters). The nobleman Vicino Orsini had this park laid out in 1552 in memory of his deceased wife. After years of being overgrown, the garden was completely restored in the mid-20th century. Today, the Parco dei Mostri is home to a colorful collection of Mannerist statues amidst a maze of well-maintained Italian gardens.

The Sacro Bosco known as Monster Park for the grotesque sculptures present is the oldest sculpture park in the modern world. Near Orsini, lord of Bomarzo, he built it starting from the middle of the 16th century. Overcoming the dominant idea of the Italian Renaissance garden, Vicino creates a work that is not easy to decipher, fitting into the new naturalistic architectural vision of the end of the Renaissance. Immersed in lush nature, the park takes the form of a hermeneutical labyrinth populated by symbolic sculptures that escape classical composure giving way to a Mannerist taste for the bizarre and the occult. A visit to the park is, however, a particularly interesting experience as it combines art, magic and literature whose references are not always decipherable.

The Sacro Bosco di Bomarzo is the oldest sculpture park in the modern world. It was designed in the 16th century by the architect Pirro Ligorio commissioned by Prince Pier Francesco Orsini, lord of Bomarzo. The Sacro Bosco is also known as the Park of Monsters due to the presence of sculptures depicting mythological animals, deities and monsters scattered in a surreal natural landscape.
