From the Rey refuge, with a short but very steep climb on a wide dirt road, we reach the banks of this lake. There is a small house called "Naturalistic Observatory" which we can use as a shelter in case of rain

It stands close to a cave whose legend has it that it was inhabited by a hermit. It can be reached via a wide, decidedly steep mule track passing through the Refour hamlet

Built towards the end of the nineteenth century at the behest of the then Italian Ministry of War, Fort Föens was one of the fortifications for defensive purposes in these areas. It rises between the Costans and Ferane canals, at the foot of Mount Jafferau. Currently the main building is in fair conditions of conservation and the aiming angles of the cannons are clearly visible on the terraces and on the roof of the fort.
