Together with Hauptstraße, Obere Torstraße forms the main thoroughfare through Zeil's old town. Most of the buildings on Obere Torstraße date from the late 17th/early 18th century, as they – like the houses on the west side of the market square – had to be rebuilt after severe damage during the Thirty Years' War. Today, Obere Torstraße, like Hauptstraße, suffers from considerable traffic despite a bypass. Yet Obere Torstraße is one of the best-preserved streets in the city in terms of historic preservation. Especially on the southwest side, one well-maintained half-timbered house follows the next, next to the "Jagdschloss" (hunting lodge). Even on the northeast side, only a few architectural blemishes spoil the overall picture. Source: https://denkmal-zeil.de/detail/oberetor/oberetor.php
