Tips from the Community

Moonbeam🌜
April 7, 2026, Christuskirche Bischofsheim

The construction of the Protestant church began in 1902 with the laying of the foundation stone, and it was solemnly consecrated just one year later. Architecturally, it is designed in the neoclassical style. However, it only received the designation "Christuskirche – Haus der lebendigen Steine" (Church of Christ – House of Living Stones) about a century after its construction. A look into religious history shows that during the Reformation, Bischofsheim was almost entirely Protestant. However, this changed under the influence of the Counter-Reformationist Julius Echter towards the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th centuries, when confessional relations shifted back in favor of Catholicism. Today, in addition to the Catholic and Protestant churches, Bischofsheim is also home to a Russian Orthodox and a Protestant free church community.

Many beautiful hiking trails lead to the Holy Mountain. Beautiful views of the Rhön Mountains can be found from the crosses.

This used to be the train station, where visitors were welcomed. Now Bischofsheim welcomes its tin-clad visitors at this spot :-)
