Veurs (Sint-Martens-Voeren) is one of the places in the Voer region where the highest concentration of traditional half-timbered buildings has been preserved. The hamlet is known for: 18th- and early 19th-century half-timbered farmhouses, built with wooden posts and cross-beams, filled with loam, lime, brick, or flint, often whitewashed, with dark wooden beams visible. This combination—wood, loam, and flint—is typical of the Voer region and rarely found elsewhere in Flanders.

The half-timbered houses of Veurs are a beautiful example of traditional architecture in the Belgian Voer region. This small hamlet is known for its high concentration of well-preserved timber-framed houses filled with stone or clay, often combined with flint. Most of the houses date from the 18th and early 19th centuries, and many bear dates or facade inscriptions that emphasize their historical significance. Veurs is nestled amidst rolling hills, meadows, and hedgerows, allowing the half-timbered houses to blend beautifully into the landscape. Hikers passing through experience an authentic atmosphere of rural Limburg: narrow field lanes, grazing cows, old farmhouses, and the gentle contours of the rolling hills. The village thus offers a glimpse into how local residents have built their homes for centuries with craftsmanship, traditional materials, and attention to detail. A wave of restoration began in the 1970s, allowing many of these houses to retain their original charm and structure. Today, the half-timbered houses of Veurs are part of hiking trails through the Voer region and are a magnet for lovers of heritage architecture and nature. They form a harmonious blend of history, culture, and rural landscape, making them a perfect spot to pause for a moment, take photos, and experience the authentic charm of Belgium.
