The white spheres are actually inflatable balloons made of Kevlar and are meant to protect the satellites. Kevlar consists of arimids, fibers that form a group of polymers. This makes the spheres heat-resistant and ensures they have high tensile strength. Kevlar is also used in bulletproof vests, among other things. Want to know more? The Sint-Antonius Chapel is a chapel in Kester, a sub-municipality of Gooik. The chapel is located on the Kesterweg. Historical maps from the 18th and 19th centuries show a junction of roads where the chapel was built. A chapel has been indicated here since the middle of the 19th century and it is therefore one of the oldest pillar chapels in the Pajottenland. Today there is a path next to the chapel. St. Anthony's Chapel is located on the route of the Holy Trinity procession, also known as the Kester horse procession. (Wikipedia)

The NATO Satcom Site in Leerbeek, located on the Kesterheide, is one of the largest NATO communications centers in Europe. The base has undergone an upgrade over the past four years, with the well-known white sphere receiving three extra spheres and itself also undergoing an upgrade. This upgrade was necessary to turn the new NATO base into one of the largest communications centers in Europe. The total cost of this upgrade was 15 million euros. In Europe there are only four places where such a base is still located: in Italy, Turkey and Greece. The base in Leerbeek and the one in Verona (Italy) are the largest, with four spheres each. The white spheres are actually inflatable Kevlar balloons that protect the satellites.

The former mill town of Rebecq still has two showpieces: the Grote Molen and the Kleine Molen. The Great Mill, made of brick and stone, was built between 1858 and 1860 on foundations from the 16th century. Barley, oats and rye were ground with this mill. Today it is a museum dedicated to the mining of purple stone from Quesnast, a commune near Rebecq. Only wheat was milled in the Kleine Molen. It now contains a forge and an old engine room that still works.
