Ooltgensplaat Marina is a popular port with passers-by because of its friendly atmosphere and central location in the South Holland waters and Zeeland delta waters. The marina is located on the Volkerak, a mile south of the Volkerak locks. Within half a day you can reach the North Sea locks at Stellendam, the Grevelingen, the Oosterschelde and cities such as Dordrecht. The entrance to the harbor is difficult to see due to the trees and shrubs, so pay close attention to the signs indicating the harbor. The Volkerak has virtually no water level difference, so the maximum draft is a constant 1.80 metres. This applies to the lock threshold, the access channel and the port itself.

The Old Town Hall of Ooltgensplaat overlooking the harbor is the oldest building of its kind in Goeree-Overflakkee. It dates from 1616 and was built to a design by the famous 17th-century Flemish master builder Melchior van Harbach. François van Aerssen, the then master craftsman of Sint Adolfsland, to which Ooltgensplaat belonged, gave the building permit. The building has survived many disasters over the centuries, including several floods.

Around the year 1200, Goeree-Overflakkee consisted of several individual islands that had not yet been dyked to allow the water to flow freely. One of these islands had a lot of vegetation and was so silted up that it was only submerged when the tide was exceptionally high. This is how a peat area was formed. This peat area called Berwoutsmoer was crossed by three rivers, the Striene, the Tille and the Beninge. Three arms of the Meuse make the island easily accessible.
