In 1987, Sahms was named the most beautiful village in the Duchy of Lauenburg district in the “Our village should become more beautiful” competition. The success is documented by a stone with the engraved inscription “Most beautiful village – 1987”. In 2011, the municipality inaugurated its new coat of arms and the corresponding flag. The coat of arms shows a frog, a stream and a church key, which stand for the old Sahms place name Sabenize, which loosely translates as Froschbach. The church key stands for the fact that there has been a chapel in Sahms since 1319 and a church since the middle of the 15th century. In addition, the Grabau artist Jonas Nowak made a frog sculpture from a 300-year-old Sahms oak trunk. This was erected on the Steinau (the Froschbach). https://sahms.de/unser-dorf
