Nieuwe Kostersbrug over De Grift is the transition from the shopping area. Historical interpretation: With its fast-flowing, clear water, the Grift was not only an important economic artery of Apeldoorn, the Grift was also a defining feature for centuries. Bridges over the Grift served as landmarks in the city centre. For example, the Kostebeinsbrugtje from the Brinklaan was the beginning of the Hofstraat and the Kosterbrug from the Hofstraat the beginning of the Dorpstraat. In the fifties of the last century, many parts of the Grift were narrowed, filled in or moved underground for the widening of roads and for the construction of new shops and homes. As a result, the water disappeared from view. Due to its cultural-historical value, among other things, the Grift has been opened up above ground or dug again in many places since 2002. As a result, one of the carriers of the development and structure of Apeldoorn is once again a visible part of the city centre. The Stationsplein is a square with a rich history. The new square radiates allure to discover the royal city. In the square, you can admire the nice photo exhibition "75 years of Apeldoorn". Old and new photos show the difference time makes to a city. History: In the years after World War II, the Stationsplein was one of the liveliest places in Apeldoorn. The VAD regional buses still stopped right in front of the station. Immediately to the right of the station building was the VVV tourist office building. In the station itself, there was still a hairdresser at that time. The bicycle parking was opposite the station, to the right of hotel-café Atlanta. Directly opposite the station stood another hotel: Hotel Suisse. From the Stationsplein, the Hoofdstraat, Stationsstraat, and Sophialaan led into the city in different directions. The transition from Stationsplein to Hoofdstraat was still an elegant, sweeping curve at that time. The railway crossing from the Arnhemseweg also emerged there, so this was perhaps the busiest point in Apeldoorn... But as the number of cars increased, the square became increasingly impractical. Initially, the situation was resolved by traffic adjustments: traffic islands, mandatory and prohibitory signs, continuous and broken lines, parking spaces, and so on. It all helped only partially. The bus stop was moved to the Sophialaan, and where possible, parking spaces were added. Over the '70s and '80s, several buildings in the area fell into disrepair, and the adjustments made by NS to the station building in the meantime also didn't really help. Slowly but surely, the Stationsplein and its surroundings became dilapidated. But after years of embarrassment and annoyance, from 2005 onwards, the contours of a new Stationsplein become visible. The first Scots pines are planted and 'De Kus' (The Kiss), a sculpture by Jeroen Henneman, is unveiled. The old station building, which has a prominent place in the final plans, is refurbished. When the square is officially opened in early 2008, the Volkskrant has already written that it is 'one of the most beautiful station squares in Europe', and the people of Apeldoorn are rightly filled with pride. The Kiss is a gift from the people of Apeldoorn to (then) Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima for their wedding. It is an elegant, slender tower that ends 17 meters high in two line figures that seem to kiss each other in the air. A symbol of love!

Onze Lieve Vrouwe Tenhemelopneming is the oldest church in RK Apeldoorn. It is not for nothing that this church, built in 1895, is included on the monument list. Every Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the church is open to interested visitors. You can visit the church (except for The Treasury) or visit it for prayer. Sometimes there are special activities such as choir singing or organ music. Admission is free.
