The large Bornum church was built between 1884 and 1886 on the site of a medieval fieldstone church. It consists of a nave, an elongated choir with a polygonal end, and a slender tower projecting to the west. The red brick building in the Neo-Gothic style is structured all around by buttresses. The side extensions to the choir, which open onto the chancel, are unusual. The choir windows on the north and south sides were designed to commemorate the dead of the First World War. The bell, cast in 1592 by Heinrich Borstelmann in Magdeburg, dates back to the medieval church. Along with an inscription, it bears an image of Saint George. The red brick church was built in 1881/82 in neo-Romanesque style. There are cross-shaped recesses in the masonry of the church. In the sanctuary, a ribbed vault covers the ceiling, which is painted with stars on a blue background, thus emphasizing the importance of the altar. The furnishings date from the time of construction. This includes the altar table, pulpit, pews and gallery. The bell was cast in Laucha in 1882.

The late Romanesque stone church from the 14th century was dilapidated in 1610 and the tower was in danger of collapsing. In the Thirty Years' War it was also devastated. In 1741 it was rebuilt in the Baroque style (inscription inside above the portal). The church is open 24 hours a day, all year round.
