Cottbus is the passenger station and the largest rail hub in the state of Brandenburg. Currently, however, only one train per hour runs from Cottbus to Berlin. A consolidated service to two trains per hour is planned, but this requires infrastructure expansion. A second track will therefore be laid between Lübbenau and Cottbus by 2027. As with this, capacity bottlenecks also exist at other points in the rail network. To resolve these bottlenecks and subsequently offer more trains, the i2030 project (https://www.i2030.de) was launched in 2017. Under the motto "More Rail for Berlin Brandenburg," various expansion measures are planned in eight corridors and the Berlin S-Bahn network. The i2030 infrastructure expansion program is a joint project of the states of Berlin and Brandenburg, DB InfraGO AG, and Verkehrsverbund Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. More information on the double-track expansion between Lübbenau and Cottbus can be found at: https://www.i2030.de/suedost/.
