September 30, 2023, Ellon Old Bridge

The old bridge in Ellon was built in 1793 and was the main crossing of the river Ythan up until 1944. It is now only in use for pedestrians. A loop of the town including this bridge and the old railway bridge makes an ideal exploration of Ellon.

Local park with something for everyone. The Ellon riverside path runs through here, and there are several good paths which can be incorporated into a run.

The Ellon Parkrun is a fun and free 5km event that starts here every Saturday at 9:30. The course is an out and back, it runs to the river and follows it to a small loop of Gordon Park before returning the same way. Parkrun is very inclusive, you can race or jog at your own pace, go for a PB or run along chatting, it's totally up to you and very friendly.

Here is where there is a marker to start the 5KM parkrun route in Ellon. There are markers every KM. Run down to the river and cross the bridge. Follow the path under the bridge and along the riverside to Gordon Park. A loop of Gordon Park is the turning point, and return via the same route.

Tarmac bridge crosses the river Ythan next to the School. A useful shortcut to Gordon park, or useful to make a loop away from traffic using this bridge and the nearby railway viaduct.
