Illertissen was first mentioned in documents in 954 AD. The reason was the so-called Peace of Tussa, which was not entirely insignificant for the history of the region and even Germany. The later King Otto I is said to have passed over his first-born son Liudolf as successor, which is why there was a rift between father and son in 953 AD. The situation escalated and in 954 Otto and Liudolf faced each other on the Iller after the latter had taken Regensburg together with Arnulf, a son of the Duke of Bavaria who had died a year earlier. The Bishop Ulrich from Augsburg and the Bishop Hartbert from Chur rushed to the scene and mediated between the two parties. Reconciliation took place in the castle at Tussa, without which history would probably be different today. As a result of the reconciliation, the two armies joined forces and contributed to the victory over the invading Hungarians at the Battle of Lechfeld in front of Augsburg in 955 AD.

The castle is nice to look at, but you don't have a view of the city from the top.

The weekly market takes place here on Wednesdays. It also offers numerous parking spaces and water channels, which create a positive mood, especially for children

Illertissen was originally called "Tussa" (954 AD) The reason for the mention was, the reconciliation of St. Ulrich, Bishop of Augsburg and the then Bishop of Chur King Otto I. with his son Duke Luidolf of Swabia, in order to then prevent the further advance of the Hungarians with a combined army on the Lechfeld. The three Ps (Pugnamus Pro Pace - "We fight for peace") in the city coat of arms can be related to this event.
