Discover the sculptures Since the sculpture workshops held in Zwettl in 1988 and 1991 under the direction of Prof. Franz Xaver Ölzant, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the artworks created there have enriched the Zwettl cityscape. Supplemented by further statues, this has become a themed trail connecting the 16 sculptures in the Zwettl urban area.

The idea of installing a sculpture trail in Zwettl originated as part of the urban renewal campaign in Lower Austria. Participants of the „Culture & Leisure“ theme workshop suggested connecting the already existing artistically valuable sculptures with a themed trail. In cooperation with the Zwettl association „SteinKunst & Co“, the project was developed and implemented.

The historic city wall in Zwettl is an approximately 917-meter-long defensive structure from the 13th and 15th centuries, which is among the best-preserved medieval fortifications in Lower Austria. Today, it still has six defensive towers and is freely accessible to visitors in the promenade area via a modern footbridge and viewing platforms.
