July 6, 2026, St. Michael the Archangel Wooden Church in Dębno

The Archangel Michael Church in Dębno Podhalańskie is one of Poland's most significant preserved wooden churches. The late Gothic structure was built around the end of the 15th century and continues to impress today with its almost unchanged architecture. It was constructed from larch and fir wood using the traditional log building technique – entirely without iron nails. The richly decorated interior is particularly worth seeing. The colourful wall and ceiling paintings from around 1500 are among the oldest and best-preserved wooden polychromies in Europe. They are complemented by valuable Gothic artworks, including a late Gothic winged altarpiece and a crucifix from the 14th century. In 2003, the church, along with other wooden churches in southern Lesser Poland, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is considered an outstanding example of medieval wooden architecture and is an important cultural monument of the Podhale region. To this day, the church serves as a place of worship as well as a popular destination for visitors from all over the world.

A magnificent, ancient church. At 11:00 a.m., there's Mass, and afterward, the priest becomes a guide. It's worth the wait.

This pass is often the starting point for trips to Mogielnica south of here. At an altitude of 694m above sea level, there is a chapel, a stone obelisk from 1938 and a cross commemorating the battles of the Polish Legions. Great views of the Gorce, Babia Góra, Ćwilin and Śnieżnica.
