According to the Nordheide Wochenblatt, the vaulted structure has been a listed historical monument for 40 years. It is the best-preserved and only slightly altered tunnel of its kind along the historic B75 highway. Its base is made of natural stone masonry, while the vault was constructed of brick. Its significance for economic and technological history is particularly high. From March 2nd to approximately March 27th, 2026, the tunnel will be undergoing restoration. The centuries-old tunnel under the B75 connects Birkenweg on the east side with In der Pietsch street on the west side. Locally, the small tunnel is known as the Napoleon Passage. Whether the French emperor ever set foot in it is not historically documented. In 1812, Napoleon lost his Russian campaign and fled westward. His reign ended a year later, so the timing would fit.
