June 30, 2026, Along Fish Creek

Fish Creek is a waterway that runs just north of Fort St. John, and it names the community forest it traverses. Here, there are three separate trails to discover the forest, but there are also paths connecting each trail, so you can go on one loop around the whole forest. Many paths run along Fish Creek itself. Enjoy the beautiful nature!

The trailhead for the Murray Canyon Overlook Trail is located in a spacious highway pullout on Highway 52, approximately 30 kilometres north of Tumbler Ridge. It is situated at the southern end, with plenty of parking. Here, you'll find a box containing interpretive brochures that highlight twelve points of interest along the trail, just be sure to return the brochure to the box when you're done so others can enjoy it.

This is the spot where the trail climbs out of the forest onto the rim of the Murray River Valley, with a rustic staircase leading to a bench with views of the canyon and the river flowing more than 300 metres below you. In the summer, the slopes are covered in wildflowers, and there is a good chance of spotting raptors, including golden eagles, which migrate above these ridges each spring and fall.

Murray Canyon Overlook Trail is an easy out-and-back hike popular with hikers, runners, and mountain bikers that winds through forest before opening up to sweeping views of the Murray River Valley and canyon. The trail surface varies, with sections of dirt, sand, and gravel, and some exposed tree roots along the way, so sturdy footwear is recommended. It's a lovely route at any time of year, but especially beautiful in the fall when the aspen groves along the open slopes put on a show of colour.

Perfect scenery and a great setting with the lake.

The Murray River is known for its amazing boating opportunities. It offers gentle Class 2 rapids with incredible views of the Monkman Range, as well as opportunities for exploring the river upstream with jet boats. There are also plenty of camping options on the sandy banks of the river.

Bergeron Falls drops 100 meters, making it one of the tallest waterfalls in northern BC. The cascade runs over a beautiful, horseshoe-shaped bowl, offering spectacular views from both the top and the bottom of the falls.
