Wailua Falls is 173 feet tall and on the river near Lihue. This water might look familiar because it was featured on the intro to the series Fantasy Island. Hawaiian men would historically jump from the top of the falls to prove their manhood, but it is not recommended now as it can be dangerous and illegal. The hike down can also be muddy, but the pool below the falls is great for swimming, though swimmers must watch out for swift currents close to the waterfall. All in all, it is recommended to be enjoyed safely from the viewpoint.

Wailua Falls drops from the south end of Wailua River, just north of Līhuʻe, it’s divided in two strong falls, dropping 80 feet below, and during seasons of high precipitation the two cascades can become only one. One curiosity about the falls is that it featured the opening scene of the long-running TV show Fantasy Island. Take the 583 road to there, you will be sharing the road with cars, so ride careful.
