Montcau Summit

Highlight • Summit

Montcau (literally Mount Madriguera) is a peak of the Pre-coastal mountain range, located in the province of Barcelona (Spain), between Tarrasa and Manresa, with a height of 1056.8 m. It is included in the natural park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac. It is one of the main peaks of the Sant Llorenç del Munt massif. Its west face presents excellent views over the Manresa plain and the Montserrat massif, while its northeast face faces the town of San Lorenzo Savall and the Montseny massif.

The Montcau in Sant Llorenç del Munt
Its top is rocky, with little vegetation grouped in spots and rows, and with a pyramidal shape.

In the hydrological aspect, it is found in the boundaries of the Llobregat and Besós basins. On its south face the Arenas stream is born.

It is a very characteristic elevation for its triangular shape, and with a great tradition in family hiking. In the upper part there is an orientation table that indicates the peaks and mountains that surround it. On clear days it is possible to see the Pyrenees.

Access is from the Coll de Estenalles, on the road from Tarrasa to Navarclés, where there are several car parks and the Park's interpretation center. From there, we continue walking along a track, first with a steep slope, then a softer one, which takes us to the Coll de Eres, from which we access the top.

The Holm Oak of the Wind

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Alzina del Vent, also known as the "Bella Alzina" or "Alzina de la Coma d'en Vila", has a height of about 12 meters and a trunk with a large 2.8 meter perimeter.

The main attraction of this holm oak is its numerous branches, all thick, firm and long, that give it a monumental aspect.

One of the great connoisseurs of Sant Llorenç del Munt and l'Obac, Antoni Ferrando i Roig, says that "this is the best formed holm oak in the whole mass". Perhaps this is the reason that has allowed it to become a centenary, delivering on the logging into which until the end of the 20th century the extensive holm-oak trees that were present everywhere in the masses were exposed to make charcoal and firewood.

Antoni Ferrando also explains that the broad shadow generated by the size of his bracam was very sought after by pastors at midday to protect themselves and their flocks from the strength of the sun.

In December 2010, the Diputació de Barcelona, as the manager of the Natural Park, agreed to prune the dead branches of the oak and, in addition, to treat it against various pests.

La Alzina Bonica is one of the many places in the massif, where every year at Christmas the hiker groups place cribs.

The Blood Hospital

Highlight • Cave

The so-called Blood Hospital is a large triangular ravine that crosses in the middle (as if it were a natural tunnel) a rocky end of the Turó de la Fosca. Its current name comes from the 19th century, when this cavity was used by the Carlist army as a hospital to care for its wounded. It was later a refuge for woodcutters and charcoal burners, but has survived its name of Carlist origin.
To condition the cavity, the soldiers covered its two accesses (on either side of the rock) with exposed masonry walls, part of which is still preserved.
The Carlists chose this place for its size, for having a water source (Rossinyol's fountain located in the neighboring cave of the Cort Fosca) and for being strategically hidden and offering an excellent aerial view of the Torrent del Figueret, the ridge of the Espluga and other parts of the Obac.

Collbaix Summit

Highlight • Summit

Collbaix is a 543 meter peak, located in Sant Joan de Vilatorrada. It is the highest in the district of Manresa, to the west of Pla de Bages, which has an excellent observation point. It is listed as a large park by the Planning Plan of Manresa.

The mountain is located between the streams of Rajadell and Fonollosa. The south side belongs to Manresa, the east to Sant Joan de Vilatorrada, where the town's expansion area is located. Rajadell has the area of Punta Sabata and Fonollosa with most of the summit, the west and the obac slope.

Collbaix originated from the erosion of the surrounding land. A resistant layer of conglomerates protects the flat top from erosion, forming a plateau. The summit is made up of large blocks of stone separated from each other.

At the top we can find a geodesic vertex (reference 280109001)
A metal table with an engraved map of the region.

This peak is included in the list of the 100 peaks of the FEEC.

The Font de Talamanca was built in 1683 and remodeled in 1707. Until 1968 it was the place where the residents of the municipality went to get water for daily consumption and it had a communal laundry room that was used to wash clothes, which turned the fountain into one of the main meeting points in the municipality. It is a space surrounded by nature, next to the town and, right next to a centenary tree that has been declared a Cultural Asset of Local Interest. It is a negundo steel, an American species, which in the years it was planted, at the beginning of the 20th century, was very rare to find outside its original habitat.

April 19, 2026, Sant Jeroni Trail, Montserrat

I really loved this place — it’s truly unique. Montserrat Monastery has an incredible atmosphere and stunning views. The hike from the monastery to Sant Jeroni is especially memorable: the trail includes many stone steps, but it’s well-maintained and quite manageable. Along the way, you’re constantly rewarded with breathtaking views of the необычні скельні formations and surrounding landscapes. At the top, the 360-degree panoramic view is absolutely spectacular and makes the whole hike worth it.

Fountain built in 1683, which was one of the main meeting points of the village, where its inhabitants went to wash their clothes and fetch water until the 70s. The boys of the village came to this fountain, morning and afternoon , to look for water to see from the houses, and it was at this moment that battles were often fought between the boys from the upper part of town and those from the Raval. Where the fountain is now, there was the cattle trough, and next to it were the washrooms. We highlight the presence of a specimen of maple, a tree planted during a tree festival at the beginning of the 20th century. Next to the source, coming out of a crack we will observe the red falzia, a small fern and also some liverwort plants.
