Its a fun track with well constructed drop and a double gap jump both both have chicken runs if you want to swerve the feature. There is a surprise in store shortly after the drop as you turn a left hand bend. The side of the trail drops away steeply to the right hand side. This trail is preferable to the alternative route down which is a parallel track through a rain-washed gully.

There is a strong community spirit, which is centred around the Peaslake Village Stores, The Hurtwood Inn and Pedal and Spoke. St Marks’ is part of Shere and Peaslake Church. Services alternate on a Sunday between St Marks’ and St James’ in Shere. Peaslake Village Hall, is an excellent community asset, built in 1923 and regularly used for clubs, social occasions and amateur dramatics.

A little known secret in the Surrey Hills is kept in Peaslake. On weekends, the small English village is reborn with mountain bikers and horse riders alike. I earmarked the Santa Cruz dealer 'Pedal and Spoke' in the village and hired a trail bike 'Tallboy' - premium. Having warned up in fire road, which was too easy for the trail beast, I took boggy trails descending to Sutton Abinger. For someone like me not ridden a full sus before, it was a game changer. Trails are not waymarked, but still navigable with basic sense of direction after getting lost in the Hurt Wood. In Peaslake, I grouped the routes in three sections - the Hurtwood, Pitch Hill and Pasture Wood. Surrounding roads are narrow and in some sections, I had to dismount due to oncoming traffic and farm vehicle. I could have taken trails all the way, but I found lovely back country lanes so I did a quick lap around Peaslake. I would say overcast autumn days are best for MTB - so refreshing. I need to tackle more challenging black & red trails next time where trail bike really shines. What I missed - proper water-proof thermal jacket and trousers. It was a short recon, so no problem for wet bottom and back.
