Beautiful trail along the Töss. A little caution and consideration because of the pedestrians

Three almost parallel paths. From above (eastern starting point) this trail, marked with S2 on the komoot map, is the longest and in the lower part the most difficult (very steep here). Next to it from the same point are two completely parallel, shorter paths, the left one from above (= middle of the three) a veritable root trail (S1 to S2), on the far right is the hiking trail.

beautiful quiet area and worth getting off the bike and enjoying the peace and quiet for a moment

That it's more S2 to S3 is more true than the S1 designation from komoot 🤔

The region offers diverse landscapes including forests, riversides, and scenic viewpoints, with trails catering to various skill levels. Yes, Elsau is known for challenging singletracks. For instance, the Grat Trail Zurich (S2–S3) is a demanding trail with a narrow, root-covered ridge, not recommended for beginners due to its steep and rooty sections. Another challenging option is the Dättnau Trail, which offers both flowy and steep spots.
While many trails are challenging, the region offers a range of difficulties. For example, the Schnasberg Vineyard – Hegi Castle loop from Winterthur Hegi is an easy 19.4 km ride. The Dättnau Trail also has an option for an easier variant on its lower part, making it more accessible.
The Schattenberg Singletrail is a popular choice, known for its beautiful and varied single trails. Other well-regarded trails include the Grat Trail Zurich (S2–S3) and the Dättnau Trail.
While specific 'family-friendly bike parks' are not present, the area offers easier, shorter mountain bike routes suitable for families. The Schnasberg Vineyard – Hegi Castle loop from Winterthur Hegi is an easy ride, and the Short scenic singletrack trail – Töss River Rapids loop from Winterthur Hegi is another shorter, easier option.
The trails around Elsau are best enjoyed when dry. Some challenging trails, like the Grat Trail Zurich (S2–S3) and Dättnau Trail, can become very slippery when wet or covered in wet leaves. Therefore, spring to autumn, during drier periods, is generally ideal.
Yes, the Polenweg Trail is notable for its historical significance. It was built by Polish soldiers interned in Switzerland during World War II, with a blackboard along the way explaining its history.
The trails around Elsau offer diverse scenery, including routes alongside rivers, through forests, and past vineyards. You can expect natural landscapes and scenic viewpoints, such as those found along the Polenweg Trail which offers beautiful far views over the Bichelsee.

For traditional bike park amenities like chairlifts, jump lines, and extensive man-made obstacles, you would need to travel outside of Elsau. Nearby regions like Alsace, France, offer such facilities. For example, Bike Park Lac Blanc features downhill tracks with modules, footbridges, and caters to freeride and downhill experiences.
Yes, the Börenboden Flow Trail is a good example. It's described as a flowy single trail, often with roots, offering a nice riding experience.
