The home is a former Zois portico with a carved year 1641, which is protected due to its historical significance. It stands at the edge of a meadow at the eastern foot of the Španov vrh ridge above the village of Javorniški Rovt. On 1 January 1953, the Jesenice Ironworks, which owned the building and the estate, relinquished the PD Javornik-Koroška Bela building in order to arrange a mountain lodge there. PD immediately arranged it and opened it on May 17, 1953 as Dom Pristava in Javorniški Rovt. In 1971, an extension for the kitchen and toilets was built, and several rooms were acquired. The interior of the home has been renovated and updated several times. View: The view from home is quite limited due to the forest surrounding the meadow. In the north, above Javorniški Rovt, rises the Čushka Struška, northeast of it stretches Belščica, and to the right of it is Stol, the highest peak of the Karavanke. For the view towards Julijci and Gorenjska, we have to climb the mountain meadows on Španov vrh; the effort will be richly rewarded with a view of Triglav and Škrlatica and Mežaklo in the foreground. More interesting tours: Španov vrh - 1 h.

The hut stands on a lookout ridge on the southern slope of Golica, just above the forest border. In 1892, the German-Austrian Mountaineering Association built a hut on this site, which was called the German Hut before the First World War. This hurt the Slovenian mountaineers a lot, so the SPD branch for the Kranjska Gora district decided to build a Slovenian hut on the top of Golica immediately after its founding in 1903. It was built in 1904 and inaugurated on June 18, 1905; it was named after Franc Kadilnik (1825-1908), the age of Slovenian mountaineers, who contributed 7,000 crowns to the construction of the hut, which was a real asset at the time. During the two wars, both huts, Germany renamed "Spodnja", were managed by the Jesenice branch of the SPD. On June 13, 1943, partisans burned both huts so as not to serve as a base for the Germans. A new mountain lodge was built on the foundations of the former Spodnja koča hut, preparations began and in 1982 construction was completed, which was completed in 1984. The ceremonial opening of the new hut took place on 3 June 1984 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of PD Jesenice. View: There is a beautiful view from the hut, and it is much wider from the nearby peak of Golica. To the east is the Karavanke ridge with the shouldered Stol and Košuta, and to the right are the peaks of the Kamnik Alps; to the southeast, the view extends across the Gorenjska plain from the Ljubljana Basin, the Notranjska hills with Snežnik and beyond; on the south side we see the slopes of Golica towards the village of Planina pod Golico and towards the valley of the Sava a divided mountain world, and on the other side Mežakla rises above the valley; to the south-west and west the Julian Alps are spreading, we can see the central part with Triglav and Škrlatica and on the northern edge the Martuljek group with Špik; to the west stretches the western part of the Karavanke ridge with Klek and Hruški vrh nearby and Kepa a little north; from the top we can see the Carinthian side: the Rož valley, the Klagenfurt basin with Klagenfurt and Lake Wörth, and to the west of it the smaller Baška and larger Osojsko lakes, and in clear weather the Low and High Tours with the Grossglockner. More interesting tours: Golica (1835 m) - 30 min Klek (1753 m), over Jekljevo sedlo (1488 m) - 2 h. Rožca (1587 m), over Jekljevo sedlo and along the slope of Klek - 2 h 30. Table (2236 m), according to SPP - 5 h.

The best time for hiking and visiting huts in the Karavanke mountains and Julian Alps near Jesenice is generally during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn. This period offers more favorable weather conditions for exploring trails and accessing higher-altitude huts. Some huts, like Dom Pristava Mountain Hut, are probably open all year round, but many high-mountain huts and bivouacs are seasonal.
For a more rustic and less crowded experience, consider the closed-type cottages and bivouacs. Lipovceva's Hut, located in the forest above Gozd Martuljko, is a small, closed-type cottage that accommodates up to 20 people. It's not electrified, using candles for lighting and a gas stove for cooking, with water from a nearby stream. The Hut at Zadnji Vogel is another closed-type cottage, renovated in 2015, offering a more basic experience with outside toilets and no electricity.
Absolutely. Lipovceva's Hut is an excellent starting point for visiting peaks in the Martulica group. Bivouac II serves as a starting point for mountaineering routes and approaches to Veliki Rokav, Veliki Altar, Dovški križ, and Šplevo. Bivouac III is a starting point for routes to Široka peč, Dovški križ, Altar, Ponce, and various touring-skiing routes.
Amenities vary significantly depending on the hut. Some, like the Karavanke Mountain Hut, offer modern comforts such as free WiFi, private parking, fully equipped kitchens, and TVs. Others, like Dom Pristava Mountain Hut, provide typical accommodation with home cooking. More basic options, such as bivouacs and closed-type cottages like Lipovceva's Hut or the Hut at Zadnji Vogel, might only offer beds, a stove, and water from a stream, with no electricity.
Yes, the Golica Hut is located in an area particularly known for its blooming hayfields, offering a beautiful natural setting. This makes it a popular destination for those seeking scenic beauty, especially during spring and early summer when the flowers are in full bloom.
