Oker Waterfalls Cycle Path

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The path leads through the approx. 200 hectare large NSG Okertal south of Vienenburg and includes essential parts of the Okersteinfeld. It extends in the Harz foreland south of the locality of Vienenburg. The former flood and bed load deposit area of the Oker is characterized by ongoing mining activity, operating facilities and a large number of differently sized and differently structured mining waters. The course of the Oker is mostly channel-like. Only the southern stretch of the river still shows the dynamic and branched course of a typical Harz foreland river with side channels and troughs, gravel and gravel banks and near-natural bank areas.

The bridge is a relic from the time when Adolf Willikens GmbH & Co. KG's first gravel works were located there. Today you can only see the brick tower of the substation.

Waterfall by the Conveyor Belt

Highlight • Waterfall

The bridge belongs to the Raulf-Oppermann Kies GmbH site and is still in operation. The Vienenburg gravel deposit is a very resistant gravel, the petrography of which is mainly determined by hard rocks of the Harz foreland such as greywacke, quartzite and sandstone (82%) and granite. High-quality concrete grains, frost protection layers and grain mixtures can be produced from this.

Bridge unfortunately currently impassable. It is questionable whether it will be possible again in the future.

Nice little bridge, it is not rotten, even if the surface looks pretty worn.

The bridge over the Oker is in the middle of all the gravel ponds. When we were there, the hedgerow at the other end of the bridge was being cut at the other end. It didn't look locked but due to work going on there we couldn't go over there so I can't rule that out for sure
