Not far from the summit of the Aschberg stands this imposing Bismarck statue from 1901.

The observation tower on the 98 m high Aschberg absolutely fascinated me in many ways! On the one hand it has a phenomenal view of the Baltic Sea, the Wittensee and over the Schleswig-Holstein "mountain landscape" and on the other hand it is located in a very sparsely populated area, so that there is an incredibly beautiful view over a partly forested landscape. At the top you completely forget that you are actually in SH, which is more characterized by pasture and farmland. Best of all: Hardly any observation tower is also suitable for older people and people who are no longer mobile, but there is an elevator here!

A notice board informs about the following: - The Bismarck statue - created by Adolf Brütt - was originally located on the Danish Knivsberg near Apenrade. Otto von Bismarck (1815 - 1898) was founder and chancellor of the German Empire. Before the vote on the German-Danish border issue, the statue was dismantled in 1920 and transported by train to Rendsburg. Associations of Nordschleswig advocated for its erection on the Aschberg. After many disputes and years of storage in a barn in Ascheffel, the cultural monument was erected in September 1930 at its current location. Source: www.schlei-ostsee-urlaub.de

The view is just great, you can see far into the country and towards the west coast. However, one should have no fear of heights, if one wants to the tower. You can indeed with the elevator hochfahrem, to whom the lattice staircase is too airy, but also the platform above consists of grating, so that one can look thereby approximately 20 m in the depth.

The highest "peak" Schleswigholsteins is the absolute bankruptcy, but this is really funny. Summit cross with summit book without summit. Terrific!

The view over Hüttener mountains and the lakes to Schlei and Eckernförde Bay is great. The cafe-restaurant at the Lodgehotel is perfect for a break.
