September 18, 2025, Alexandrinenhütte on Sennigshöhe

On May 27, 1906, an observation tower was inaugurated on the summit in honor of Duchess Alexandrine (1820–1904), wife of Duke Ernst II of Coburg.[3][4] The Alexandrine Tower, designed by Max Böhme, fell into disrepair over the following decades due to inadequate maintenance and was demolished in March 1936 due to its dilapidated condition. On July 18, 1936, the Thüringerwald-Verein Coburg e.V. inaugurated the Alexandrine Hut on the same site, built partly using stones from the former tower. For over 80 years, the association has operated the hut on a voluntary basis and continuously modernizes it. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandrinenh%C3%BCtte

The Alexandrinenhütte is a hut belonging to the Thüringerwald-Verein Coburg e. V. (Thuringian Forest Association Coburg). It is located on the Sennigshöhe (523 m above sea level), one of the highest points in the Coburg district, near the Mirsdorf district of the Meeder municipality in Upper Franconia (Bavaria). It serves as a popular hiking rest stop and, due to its elevation, is considered the highest beer garden in the Coburg region. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandrinenh%C3%BCtte

What kind of outdoor activities can I do near the mountain peaks in Landkreis Coburg?

Are there any historical or cultural sites associated with the mountain peaks?

Yes, the Festungsberg in Coburg city likely has historical significance due to its name suggesting fortifications, possibly related to the Veste Coburg. Can I find challenging hikes among the mountain peaks?

While many trails are intermediate, some peaks offer more challenging ascents. For example, reaching the View from Spitzberg can involve a steep climb. The Straufhain, though manageable, also requires a somewhat strenuous ascent to its summit. For more challenging mountain hikes, you can check the Mountain Hikes in Landkreis Coburg guide.

What do visitors particularly enjoy about the mountain peaks in Landkreis Coburg?

The welcoming atmosphere and refreshments at the Alexandrinen Hut on Sennigshöhe are also highly appreciated. The tranquil forest paths around the Buchberg are enjoyed for their natural beauty.

Are there any peaks that are less known but still worth visiting?

The Buchberg, while the highest point in the Lange Berge, offers tranquil walks through forests and fields, providing a chance to experience a unique geological landscape away from more crowded spots. The Mirsdorfer Kuppe is another significant summit that might offer a quieter experience.

Can I access these mountain peaks by car or public transport?

While specific parking details for each peak are not always available, many areas around the peaks are generally accessible by car, with parking often available at trailheads or nearby villages. For example, the Prinzregententurm is near the Arnold-Hütte, which implies road access. Public transport options may vary, so it's advisable to check local bus schedules for routes connecting to the smaller towns and villages near the peaks.
