High in Yoho National Park’s alpine realm, Lake Oesa sits at about 2,267 metres (7,438 ft) and is reachable via a scenic climb from nearby Lake O’Hara. Its name comes from the Stoney word for “corner,” likely referencing how the lake is tucked into a rock-walled niche.

It's out of the price range for Europeans, but it's a relatively unique place and a relatively unique time too...

Quite popular canoe rental spot at Emerald Lake. However, prices are incredibly high (90$ / h). Apparently this is one of the „cheaper“ canoe rental options in the region, though. Haven’t tried this one nor any of the others but boats seem to be of good quality and all clients are equipped with life jackets.

Unfortunately the beautiful color of the lake only comes into its own when the sun is shining and during our visit it was quite cloudy. Still it was worth seeing!

Emerald Lake is an absolute insider tip in Yoho National Park. Emerald green in the middle of mountains with crystal-clear water and a beautiful circular hiking trail. The colors are really nice and offer great photo opportunities. A visit will be worth it in any case.
