Dam at Lake Łąka

Highlight (Segment) • Monument

The Łąka reservoir (the so-called Łąka Lake) - an artificial reservoir was created in 1987 as a result of the construction of a dam on the Pszczynka River, 3 kilometers west of Pszczyna.
The earth dam is 1130 meters long, the dam is 6 meters high, the surface of the reservoir is 3.53 km² and its total capacity is 11.15 million m³, the length of the reservoir is 3.6 kilometers, the average width is 700 meters, the maximum depth is 3.5 meters.
The tasks of the reservoir include, among others, reducing the risk of flooding, i.e. equalizing the flows on the Pszczynka River, supplying industrial water to the mines of the Rybnik Region Węgłowy RÓW. It is also an equalizing reservoir for the nearby Goczałkowickie Lake and creating conditions for recreation and relaxation.

Access to the vicinity of the front dam is hassle-free, the dam is open to cyclists and pedestrians. It is worse with driving along dirt roads along the reservoir because some of them are in poor condition with potholes. Lake Łąka is a great place for rest and recreation. During weekends, in the summer time of the year, it is difficult to find silence over the reservoir (a swimming pool, a lot of anglers and water scooters).
The largest beach is in the town of Łąka, there is also a yacht marina with water equipment rentals available; boats, kayaks, pedal boats and even windsurf boards. There are also football and beach volleyball fields within the swimming pool area. The Water Sports Center in Łąka, where there is also a campsite and places for barbecues or bonfires, there is a guarded municipal bathing area, and in summer there are even floating jetties, which have created a special swimming pool where you can walk.

Ignacy Mościcki Dam

Highlight • Monument

The dam for them. President Ignacy Mościcki - a concrete and earth dam built in 1929–1932 on the Wapienica River and the Barbara Stream in Wapienica (today Bielsko-Biała district). The reservoir created by damming the water is called the Wielka Łąka lake.
The reservoir is located in the Wapienica Valley and is surrounded on each side by the hills of the Silesian Beskids. On the north and west side there are: Palenica, Wysokie and Podłra, and on the south and east side - the mountains: Stołów and Szyndzielnia.
The project of building a dam in Wapienica existed from 1911, and it was put forward in the course of attempts to solve the problem of water supply to the rapidly developing Bielsko. However, it was not until 1929 that the city council of Bielsko decided to entrust the construction of the dam to the Katowice branch of the German company Dyckerhoff und Widmann. The cost of building the dam, put into operation on June 26, 1932 and named the Dam. President Ignacy Mościcki, amounted to PLN 13 million at that time, which was the equivalent of nearly USD 2.6 million.
At that time, the Wapienicka Dam was one of the most modern facilities of this type in Europe.

The retention reservoir, commonly called Lake Łąka, was created in 1987 on the Pszczynka River. It is located north of Lake Goczalkowickie and west of Pszczyna. In addition to flood protection, it is also a great place for rest and recreation. There is a Water Sports Center on the southern shore of the lake. You can use the sandy beach for a fee, there are also barbecue areas and many other attractions. The eastern shore of the reservoir is a dam whose length is 1,130 meters.
