The magnificent Baroque-Renaissance building owes its former splendor to one woman – the legendary Princess Daisy (Mary Theresia Olivia Cornwallis-West), wife of Hans Heinrich XV of Hochberg. This icon of European aristocracy and beauty was famous for her charitable work and... an incredible 7-meter-long string of pearls, associated with a dark legend of a curse (according to which the pearls brought financial ruin and personal tragedies to the Hochberg family). Daisy died in poverty in Wałbrzych in 1943, and her grave in the park remains unfound to this day, as faithful servants moved the coffin several times for fear of desecration by soldiers. After the war in 1945, the castle was occupied by the Red Army – the Soviets completely looted the priceless library and devastated the interiors, irrevocably destroying priceless Baroque stuccoes and historical furniture.

Another fascinating figure in the history of the castle was Agnes of Austria, widow of Duke Bolko II the Small Zamek, w którym hitlerowcy ukryli... (FOTO) - e-legnickie. Although she had more powerful and luxurious castles at her disposal, it was Cisy that became her favorite residence, from where she ruled the entire duchy for 24 years with a strict "iron hand" – which in the Middle Ages was a total anomaly in a world ruled by men Zamek, w którym hitlerowcy ukryli... It is said that in the 1940s, the Germans carried out mysterious earthworks in the area of the ruins, and treasure hunters still scour the 7-meter-deep water cistern carved into the rock today, hoping that deposits from nearby Wałbrzych were hidden under the rubble Zamek Cisy - Zamki znane i nieznaneZamek, w którym hitlerowcy ukryli... For years, guidebooks stated that the first mention of a wooden stronghold at this site dated back to 1243 ZAMEK CISY - Zamki Polskie. However, modern historians examined this parchment and discovered that it is... a brazen 13th-century forgery, created by former officials to extort land rights Zamek Cisy - Zamki znane i nieznane! The true history of the stone fortress only began at the end of the 13th century thanks to Bolko I the Strict Zamek Cisy - Zamki znane i nieznane. The castle's darkest period occurred in the mid-14th century – the powerful fortress had slipped from the control of the dukes and became the official nest of robber-knights (Raubritter), who would mercilessly plunder merchants traveling from Bohemia towards Świdnica and Wrocław from the tower ZAMEK CISY - Zamki PolskieRuiny Zamku Cisy na Dolnym Śląsku - Klub Podróżników.

Cisy Castle north of Wałbrzych is impressive. It is believed to have been built in the 13th century and then of course rebuilt. The impressive ruins (these are so-called permanent ruins) allow you to imagine how big this castle once was. In its heyday, there were probably at least three storeys in the walls and it looks like there was also quite a large courtyard. The easiest way to enter the castle is via a convenient path. Everything is free and it will take about 20 minutes to see everything.

The castle was built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, probably on the initiative of Bolko II the Small. During the Hussite Wars at the beginning of the 15th century, the castle was captured and destroyed by insurgents. It was rebuilt and modernized, adapting it to the conditions of artillery defense. During the Thirty Years' War (1618-48), Cisy was captured and burned by Swedish troops. The abandoned castle quickly fell into ruin. It was not until 1927 that the first attempts were made to save the remains of the castle. It was then possible to recreate the main spatial layout, secure the ruins of the residential building, level the tower crown and reconstruct the external entrance gate with the bridge. Further renovation attempts were made in the 1960s, securing the castle to a state of permanent ruin.
