The largest natural lake in the Midlands, Aqualate Mere is a nature reserve managed by Natural England. Although large, it is very shallow, generally no more than a metre deep. The Mere is an example of an esker system, which is rare in the Midlands, formed by glacial meltwaters during the late Devensian glaciation.

Aqualate is a great place to see vast flocks of overwintering wildfowl, as well as being a breeding site for curlew and snipe. The hide offers superb views out across the water.

Queen's Park, Longton

Highlight • Viewpoint

This has pretty much kept to the same plan as when it was officially opened for Queen Victoria's Jubilee.

It has an icecream van by the play area every weekend. It has a skate board park, football fields, 2 large courts, outdoor gym, bowling greens, table tennis, bandstand and LOTS of friendly resident squirrels.

Come with a frisbee, picnic and change for a Mr Whippy and you are in for a nice family day out. (They are currently putting a tea room in too which should be operational by summertime.)
