A walk to the top of Helvellyn is one of the most popular and adventurous walks in the Lake District through both Swirral Edge and Striding Edge ridges.

Great mountain. Clouds came down and then blew away to reveal shear drops and amazing vistas only feet away. The wind, mist and driving rain all added to the atmosphere. Striding and Swirral edge are no pushovers so be prepared and this is in July.

Mosedale Cottage is one of only three bothies in the Lake District, and probably the most remote of the three. It sits out of sight of any roads, towns or houses and is only accessible on foot or by mountain bike. Be aware that it can be boggy, but there's a fire in the cottage to dry out your feet.
