Kuer Tunturi, Äkäslompolo's local mountain, is a must for any visit. Just like coffee and a delicious pastry at Velhonkota Oy. This time, we parked the car in the parking lot about 400 meters from Velhonkota. The snowshoe trail starts directly across the street from the parking lot. Since we took the same route up and back, we were able to enjoy the sunshine again and again and had a winter wonderland experience. The walk from the parking lot to Äkäslompolo is a bit boring and I would only recommend it in an emergency. It's better to call a taxi and enjoy a coffee at the kota while you wait.
