Schönenberg owes its origins to the Waldensians. Their leader Henri Arnaud settled in Schönenberg with a group in 1699 and built a small wooden church. He died in 1721, highly respected. In 1882 they were given permission to build a new church. The foundation stone was laid on May 31, 1883, and the inauguration took place on December 9 of the same year.
